A hyperbaric chamber is a pressure vessel — a sealed structure that is pressurized and depressurized with a person inside, session after session. The benchmark for equipment like this is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, maintained by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers since 1914, written into law across the United States and recognized in more than 100 countries.
What ASME certification is
It certifies that a vessel is designed, fabricated, inspected, and tested to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Because a hyperbaric chamber holds a person under pressure, the code's most stringent requirements apply — and certification confirms they were met.
Why it's the difference in quality
Most hyperbaric chambers sold today — particularly low-cost and imported units — are not built to the ASME code. Certification is independent, third-party proof of structural integrity, registered with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. It is verification, not a claim a seller makes about its own product. Every Oxycell chamber is built to this standard, in an ASME-certified facility.
What it takes to earn it
It is not a label a manufacturer can self-apply. It requires an audited quality-control system, designs proven by engineering calculation, qualified welding procedures, fully traceable materials, pressure testing, and sign-off by an independent Authorized Inspector before the ASME Certification Mark may be stamped on the vessel — with re-audits to keep it.
